How is Solar Energy Used?

Before stepping into how Solar Energy is used, you may remember this.

“Energy as well as Matter Can Neither Be Created or Destroyed Only Transformed”

It is no secret that the sun is the main first stage in most natural forces and energy generation.

Because of the sun, plants can generate that vital force that is transferred to herbivore animals and from them over to carnivores.

Sun evaporates oceans and lakes waters up into the sky and when it rains, it allows the water to come down on higher grounds accumulating passive energy that will slowly be release as it runs back down to the oceans. We take advantage of this energy when generating electric power on hydroelectric dams.

The sun also raises the temperature on different surfaces unevenly, causing the air to heat up and circulate upwards and pulling the cooler air from the surroundings. This generates the wind currents all over the earth.

The small amount of the suns energy that arrives to earth generate so much power by its self that it is responsible for the heat, storms, tornados, hurricanes and air and water currents in our planet.

We have being able to take advantage on a small amount in transforming this energy into stored heat or electric power. Our systems are far from perfect but technology is evolving faster every time and on his track, these systems are getting better and better.

There are three main ways we can take advantage of the suns energy.

The Passive solar techniques make use of the steady supply of solar energy and wind flow by means of building designs that carefully balance their energy requirements with the building’s site and window orientation. This means that no additional equipment is used other than the regular building elements.

The active solar techniques required some extra mechanical equipment to collect and distribute the heat to some other areas.

And the Photovoltaic system, this one uses semiconductor cells that transform light energy into electric current.

Today, when constructing a new building, or home, planning it correctly while taking advantage of passive solar energy complemented with active and photovoltaic system, they can convert the project almost completely energy self sufficient.

To take a wise decision on the size, and specific kind of system a complete study should be made. Geographic situation must always been taken in consideration.
